What's the proper tie length?
Selecting a great-looking tie is just the first step. Exactly how long should your tie be? Ideally, the end of a tie should always hit somewhere between the top and bottom of your belt. Also, you should always try to get the front and back of the tie as equal in length as you can.
Better a little too long than too short
If you're going to stray from the above guidelines in length, remember that wearing your tie a little long doesn't look nearly as bad as wearing it too short. There is something about a too-short tie that creates the impression of a gut, whether you have one or not, so aim for the end to hit the middle of your belt to look your best.
